I found out that she is going to NY for her brother’s wedding. So…I didn’t want to get into writing from the Count of Monte Cristo…that takes time and consistency. I asked her what we should do today.

So I went through her Norton Anthology of American Literature Since 1945.
I looked through the index and chose Kurt Vonnegut. I have read all of his works and took a satire class in college long ago which included him. I chose “Slaughterhouse-Five…one of my favorites.

I read most of the time while she listened and did research on her computer. I told her to listen and to do research and interrupt whenever she felt was necessary. After I read for a bit, she showed me pictures and videos of the bombing of Dresden which was worse than Nagasaki from what the internet article said and judging from the video and pictures… I think this was true.

I told her that the art of learning has improved exponentially with the internet so that while she listened to my reading of Kurt Vonnegut’s (sarcastic and ironic) memoirs of the bombing of Dresden that she could research and significantly add to the depth of our reading and understanding of what Vonnegut was trying to convey.

She read at the end while Danny came in and listened. I motioned for him to come in while Mary was reading. We went overtime, but she was into it (Vonnegut is powerful) and listened for a good ten minutes. It was good for all.
