Lesson Outline
Math – Kelcy practiced calculating area for rectangles and squares. Then he practiced solving word problems where you know the area and one length and you had to find the width. Next he learned to write the area in square units and why it is important to do so. He also is aware of the importance of including the units in the lengths and widths. Then he developed his understanding of fractions as numbers. He learned that when you divide smaller numbers of items between larger numbers of distributions you divide the items into the number of distributions that you need to make.
Science – Kelcy examined several fossilized shark's teeth. He was able to identify teeth from a tiger, bull, mako, and lemon sharks as well as many others by comparing them to a chart. Then he examined the jawbone from a baby shark.
