As we will soon complete the novel and have a test that requires an analysis of quotes from the novel, we today worked on how to write an analysis of critical thematic quotes. We concentrated on the author's interesting comment that the "cost" of having ambitions includes self-denial, anxiety, and discouragement. Sofia discussed concrete examples of self denial, anxiety, and discouragement and in her notebook outlined the meaning and thematic significance of a similar quote from the novel.
