Jasmine and I began by co-reading a chapter of the novel. I gave a writing prompt (How does Susan try to make Christmas special for Ada and Jamie?) Together, we brainstormed, wrote a paragraph, and edited it (emphasizing adding descriptive adjectives.). To conclude, we read for ten more minutes. Great work, Jasmine.

Jasmine was subdued. I tried to break the ice (and acknowledge that life is a bit different right now) by asking her if she had any cousins living with her. Apparently, there is a 15-year-old cousin and a six-year-old, as well as four pets! She warmed up, and we had a few laughs. She's a good kid, clearly under stress. I told her at the end that she did a great job today.
