We began reading "the Most Dangerous Game but got caught up in a discussion about 9-11, because Colson gave an excellent speech about the event during lunch today. He asked me to share more of my memories about the day since I was living close by and had many personal recollections to share. Colson was also excited because he had just received his learner's permit at the DMV and we discussed driving experiences, speed limits, hazards of driving, and other vehicular issues.

Interactive Calendar Spelling Words Sentence Puzzle ABC's Months Handwriting CVC Words Life Cycle of a Chicken
Lesson Outline
She learned about the month of April, said her ABC's, wrote the months of the year, learned about the life cycle of a chicken, used tiles to spell her new spelling words, finished her daily calendar talk, and put together her daily sentence puzzle.
Libby started out by recalling the words we worked on yesterday (-in, -it, and -is). Next, she used letters to create words using those roots. She formed dine, diner, finer, and miner. Then, she formed lit, bit, fit, and sit. Lastly, she created miss, kiss, and sis. Once, she was done, I asked her to be creative and create a few new words. She said queen, Jaqie, and lucky ducky. Then, we discussed how words that end with -y have the long e sound. We looked at her name tag and discussed that since both of her names end in -y, each says the long e sound. Next session, we'll work on rhymes.
Libby worked on sight words. We worked out of a flash card deck of 78 two-sided cards. I modelled expectations first, then we did it together, then she independently sounded out the words. Supportive prompts facilitated performance.
We explored topics in nature and was joined by some of his peers when we went outside. We saw an iguana climbing a tree! Teddy found it interesting to watch and and slowly approached it but it scurried up the tree. He commented on its size, color, and speed, and we will organize out thoughts and are planning to write a few sentences about our observations.

Lesson Outline
Teddy participated in a guided reading exercise. He selected an "I Can Read Book," entitled Mouse Soup, by Arnold Lobel. Teddy was first asked to make a prediction based on the illustration on the front cover. There were 4 stories within the story and Teddy was queried as we read each one. I used my finger to underline the words as I read aloud, occasionally pausing to allow Teddy to sound out some words. Teddy selected his favorite of the stories and summarized its main point well. We then both drew a picture of two characters from the book, and we both enjoyed a fun and productive session.
