Ashley arrived 17 minutes late to the session. I believe that the cause for this has more to do with her working on a portion of her standardized test rather than not keeping track of time. To support my theory, Clint brought Ashley to the session and asked if I would proctor a section of Ashley’s exam, which I did for the 1st portion of her class period (until 11:42). After we finished the section, Ashley decided that she wanted to work on her canvas painting. Actually she was very enthusiastic about her desire to paint. So for the next 35 minutes we worked on her canvas painting (we stopped at 12:20, then cleaned up). As she worked on her painting I asked a few simple questions about color formulas/mixing, and Ashley did not know the response to these simple questions. My primary concern is that Ashley is not retaining the information on color that has been provided to her in earlier sessions. I don’t believe that her inability to provide the correct answers to my questions has anything to do with focus as much as it might have to do with priority. I know that Ashley really enjoys painting, and is always eager to create with colors, my uncertainty rest within whether or not she actually wants to focus on design or if she actually creatively rather pursue her first love of music and dance. Ashley is a very bright and intelligent young lady, so rather than rush to judgment I think I will see what happens next session.
