Letter-writing
Lesson Outline
Brandon wrote a letter to two of his teachers - both named Sheri. I offered assurance that I would help him if he encountered any difficulty or had any questions, but Brandon firmly and confidently explained that he was in fourth grade, and he was 9 years old and knew how to write a letter. I reminded Brandon to capitalize the letter when starting a sentence and showed him the way to properly format a letter. After some prompting methods, Brandon responded to my directives and corrected his writing. He wrote one card to his piano teacher, adding a picture of himself and a piano to it, and one to an administrator at Batt, who had given him a gift for his presentation and for graduating. Brandon also explained how to play a game of chess to me - identifying the pieces and showing me how they moved. We attempted to play a game, and Brandon suggested moves, some of which worked to his advantage. He enjoyed capturing my pieces, but was a good sport when I captured his. We went outside and Brandon helped me water some plants in the garden until it was time for lunch. We enjoyed a productive session but also had a lot of fun doing so.
