Lesson Topic
Time zones/Formulas/Weight loss/Selling price/Credit cards
Lesson Outline
Continue time zones/complete exercises adjusting time based on travel from one part of the country to another.
Go over/give examples of formulas for area (A=LxW) and perimeter (P=2L+2W) for example, to seed a lawn you need to know the square area so that you know how many bags of seed you need (each bag covers 350 sq.ft.) multiply length times width of yard then divide by 350. To find perimeter (for fencing a yard) multiply 2x length and 2x width and add the two.
Explain that weight loss is achieved by burning off more calories than you take in, for example, foods have different calories and you have to burn/use 3500 calories to lose 1 pound. Also, different exercises use more calories than others, such as, 2 hours of swimming will use more calories than brisk walking, etc. Complete exercises
When stores set a selling price for an item, managers consider the cost of the item, costs for employees, store rent, any other overhead, plus the profit they want to make on the item for example, cost $25.04 - overhead 18% - profit 10% = selling price $32.06 - complete selected exercises.
Shopping for a credit card - look on the internet and compare at least 4 different credit cards - name of company, sponsoring organization, annual fee, credit limit, and APR, minimum payment, grace period, and any other types of terms found. Determine the "best" card.
