Lucas practiced identifying the vowels and noting what makes them special. He read words with the -at, -an, and -ad patterns and made beginning sound substitutions within them. We read "The Art Lesson" by Tomie DePaola for read-aloud, noticing that the story is about the author. Finally, Lucas read a phonetically controlled book from the Primary Phonics series. We added eight vocabulary words from the story to his word wall.
