Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary
Lesson Outline
Finley wanted to discuss strategies for taking the PSAT, since she admitted to getting bored with texts that do not interest her. She received an almost perfect score on the reading section of the practice test, so the only thing she could improve was to read the questions before the passage so she was prepared to look for certain details. I compared it to a lawyer gathering details for a case. Since Finley wants to be a lawyer, this strategy connected with her. I encouraged her to practice the strategy of "close reading," which is paying attention to as many details as possible in a specific section of the text. I also suggested reading as much as possible to see grammar patterns in sentences.
