1) Discuss 17th century literature: 1603-1660, Elizabeth Dies, Religious Turmoil between Catholics, Puritans, and the English Church, Charles I reign and execution, Charles II. Literature: jacobean Writers and Characterisitcs: Metaphysics, science and nature (Donne, Spenser, and Johnson).
2) Discuss the biography of John Donne: Who is he? What is his relationship between the Catholics and the English Church? What major shifts occurred in his writing?
3) Read: "A Valediction Forbidding Mourning," and Holy Sonnets 10 and 14.
