Great Session!
Today we continued working in the Grade 10 Florida Reading book p. 39-47. Josh completed the assessments for chapter 2 and we went over all missed questions. The skills practiced were: Main Idea, Details, Drawing Conclusions, Making Inferences, Paraphrasing and Summarizing.
I have noticed that even when asked to read silently, Josh prefers to read to himself out loud. I’ve also noticed that he does better when he is allowed to do this. Perhaps if this is not already an accommodation for Josh in school, it can be discussed at a future meeting.
We ended the session in the “Monsters” book, one of the books in Josh’s favorite book series. He read and answered the questions on p. 106-111 for the “Grendel” story. We went over and discussed all the incorrect answers.
Next week we will begin to incorporate writing into our sessions. I will be asking Josh to compose a summary of one of the stories he reads during the session, on the computer, each time we meet.
