Lesson Topic
Indian in the Cupboard
Lesson Outline
As the novel begins to explore how Omri's caring for his "real " Indian changes Omri's habits and values, we studied how Omri's development also changes his relationship with his best friend, Patrick. We discussed why friendships change or sometimes dissolve in this context .Atticus discussed why Omri reveals the secret of the magic cupboard to his friend,Patrick, but later has misgivings fearing that Patrick will not recognize the responsibility that attends caring for a "real" person. Atticus then prepared a chapter summary based on our class discussion after which I again used his writing to conduct a short grammar lesson, today on capitalization, commas, and run-on sentences(or improper use of commas). I will bring exercises on run-ons to our next session to further refine this skill.
