Lesson Outline
This morning we read chapter 9 of The Hiding Place. The family who had been hiding Jews had their home raided. It was a difficult time for the characters and we reviewed the material for clarity as we read and discussed how they must have been feeling. After reading, Morgan wrote a two-paragraph journal entry to respond to the following prompt: “Tell me about a time in your life where you had to conceal the truth from someone to protect them/their feelings (it can be something minor). What did you do and how did that make you feel? Do you stand by or regret your actions, and why?” Morgan didn’t feel like she really had much to write about for this assignment, but landed on how she felt about her experience with Lindamood Bell when she was younger. She struggled with not wanting to do it and being compliant and agreeable with those asking her to participate. She did add that she stood by her actions and was glad that she spent the time in the program. Finally, we began working on an enrichment project. We will be creating a travel brochure to capture the important and favorite places she visits when she is in Juno Beach each year. Today she began writing about her favorite restaurant (Jetty’s).
