We began our session with days 1 and 2 of the week 24 vocabulary packet. We discussed the words for this study, which are: anthropologist, bizarre, inanimate, fetish, artifact, taboo, imprudent, prohibition, imperative, and taint. Morgan read two passages that utilized all of these words. After reading, she shared what she felt was the main idea of the passage. She then matched the definitions and words as well as completed fill-in-the-blank sentences examining the words in context. We worked to “check” her work by inserting the definition into the sentence to help deepen understanding and confirm the correct word was chosen. She added the part of speech for each word. We also discussed the idioms of “get down off one’s high horse” and “cream of the crop”. Next, we read through notes on adverbs. Morgan then completed practice activities to identify “how” adverbs. Finally, Morgan was provided with review sheets to complete for her upcoming poet quiz later in the week.
