Lesson Outline
We began our session with day 3 of the week 24 vocabulary packet. We discussed the words for this study, which are: universal, contemptuous, absurd, abhorrent, and superstition. Morgan read a passage that utilized all of these words. After reading, she shared what she felt was the main idea of the passage. She then matched the definitions and words as well as completed fill-in-the-blank sentences examining the words in context. We worked to “check” her work by inserting the definition into the sentence to help deepen understanding and confirm the correct word was chosen. We also discussed the idiom of “dyed-in-the-wool” which means set in one’s ways. We completed the same activity for the day 4 set of words which are: vulnerable, entreaty, tradition, originate, and inviolable. The idiom for this lesson is: “blue chip” which means a highly valuable asset or stock. Next, we read through notes on “good” vs. “well” and determining adjective or adverb. Morgan completed a practice activity in which she identified the correct word of two choices in 15 sentences. She did a great job with only one error. Finally, we were able to read a few pages of chapter 11 in our novel, The Hiding Place.
