Lesson Topic
Paralyzer by Finger 11 - playing through the intro; accenting upbeats on the hi-hat.
Lesson Outline
Played through the intro to Paralyzer and started working on the groove for the first verse. Because this incorporates accented upbeat 8th notes on the hi-hat, we did some accenting exercises to develop a feel for stick height and widening the dynamic range between softer and accented notes. We also did some accenting exercises with 16th note groups in anticipation of playing the accented fill leading into the first chorus.
Assignment
Practice the intro to Paralyzer and the accenting exercises. Work on playing the accented hi-hat within the groove for the first verse.

Lesson Comments
Devin did a great job on the intro portion of Paralyzer. The upbeat accents on the hi-hat once we get into the first verse are challenging him quite a bit. The actual figures he is playing are quite easy, but trying to add the dynamics adds a whole new level of difficulty and coordination challenges.
