Lesson Topic
Quadrilaterals
Lesson Outline
I have realized that Andrew and I need to take it back a step with understanding the differences and similarities in quadrilaterals. Today, we worked on a graphic organizer that started with a funky looking quadrilateral and then we broke it down into trapezoid, parallelogram, rhombus, square, and rectangle. We discussed the properties of when the polygon has parallel sides, what category it's in. If it has congruent sides, what category it's in. By having Andrew draw out the figures and write their names, it seemed to help him differentiate them. I asked Andrew questions like, "True or False: all rhombuses are squares." He answered False. I asked, "Are all square rhombuses?" He said, Yes. He asked me when he would take his test, and I said I wasn't sure because I wanted to make sure he felt comfortable with the material first and I didn't think he was ready. We will stay at this pace for a moment.
