Lesson Outline
Andrew was 16 minutes late to class. I asked him why he was late and he said his stomach hurt. I had our work ready and we began. We started with ACT problems that he had trouble with while I was out last week. Each problem was on content we have covered this year. He was unable to recall definitions and formulas that we have spent time on. We tried a few problems and then moved back into the text. We discussed the concept of volume and how it measures the amount of space an object holds on the inside. We reviewed from yesterday how we can find the volume of a prism by taking the area of the base times its height. We considered a problem with a sand box and bags of sand. Andrew had to determine how many bags of sand he would need to fill up the sand box completely. I guided Andrew on how to find the volume of the sandbox, by multiplying length, width, and height. Simliarly the bags of sand as well. Then we divide the volume of the sand box by the number of sand bags to see how many would go into it. We considered the units would be "feet cubed".
