After alphabetic awareness, I conducted visual, auditory, and blending drills. Luna syllabicated two-syllable VCCV words (Recipe for Reading, p. 85-86) I dictated the following sentences: "I can shop with a goblin." and "What will happen if I tell Mom?" We played a boardgame with compound words; the goal was to have Luna identify the number of syllables in each word ("pound & sound." I taught a new concept: the open syllable. We played Connect 4 with closed and open syllables to reinforce the concept. To conclude, Luna read two decodable texts from FlyLeaf Publishing, "Dan and Dot" and "Dot Likes to Dig."
