Lesson Topic
Triplets cont'd, Enter Sandman, Buddy Holly etc.
Lesson Outline
We started out reviewing triplets, with Cam once again playing through the exercise on his own. From there we discussed the importance of keeping your hands/wrists loose while gradually increasing our tempo. Cam was able to play through the whole exercise at 130 bpm, the 16th notes being the limiting factor. From there we reviewed Enter Sandman, with Cam doing a great job intuitively reacting to the sections of the song we only recently began looking at. To end the lesson we took a look at Buddy Holly, and a couple of other songs, to illustrate to Cam just how many songs he's now able to play thanks to his understanding of the basic rock beat and its variations.

Lesson Comments
Cam shared with me today that he's hearing music differently now then he had before he started drumming, and seems excited by his new-found ability to play along to numerous songs. Today when an ad played before the song we were working on Cam, seemingly without thinking about it, began playing drums along to the music in the ad! It was thrilling to see the moment he realized what he was doing and it sparked a great conversation about the versatility of the basic rock beat and how he can now use his understanding and intuition to play along to most songs he hears.
