Reading, Nouns, Writing Celebration
Lesson Outline
Maya had a wonderful day. She was so excited to celebrate her writing. She did have a lot to celebrate! She completed all 7 steps of the writing process (pre-writing, planning, drafting, revising, editing, final drafting and publishing). She spent almost 2 weeks completing the process. Her favorite part seemed to be the prewriting, planning and drafting because we work in the yellow legal pad. The yellow paper clearly helps students differentiate between the pre-work and final work, thus helping students to understand concretely that writing is a process rather than just a final product. Maya worked hard to prepare for the celebration. We decorated cups, made lemonade and set the table. Maya poured everyone's lemonade. Despite the excitement for the celebration Maya worked hard in reading and language arts. She read level I Mike's Good Bad Day. She did an excellent job retelling the story and discussing each story element. Lastly, I introduced the concept of common, proper and pronouns to Maya. She seemed to understand. We will work to apply this concept in our conversations and writing and identify various nouns while reading and writing.

Maya was so excited today. I am proud of her accomplishments! We do not have the cursive book. I talked to her mom about it. She said she will look at home:)
