Today was Maya's last day this year at Juno Prep. We are all extremely sad to say goodbye. Maya took a 50 question multiplication test and scored a 100. She was able to complete this test in 5 minutes. She reviewed using fraction strips to find equivalent fractions. Maya spent time with Patrick during her Lindamood-Bell program. They took turns making basketball shots after listing structure words from their program. During Maya's FF time she was engaged in a Dr. Seuss activity, where Miss Judie was dressed as one of the characters. Mr Kevin read aloud a story to all of our students. They really enjoyed this social gathering. Best wishes in your new school, Maya! We will me you, tremendously!
I gave Maya the opportunity to pick what she'd like to do in yoga, as it is her last day at the school. She did some gymnastics with Ayden, then worked on the large exercise balls, creating her own variations and movements incorporating yoga and gymnastics. I showed her the humble warrior pose and she practiced this until she accomplished the pose. The last part of class was spent outdoors doing waist and arm hooping. Handout: Rabbit pose
Assignment
Maya brought her yoga folder home to show her parents.
Maya arrived with 15 minutes of her session remaining. Due to it being her last day, her and her peers talked and enjoyed one another. She will be missed beyond words, but we believe in her!
Maya did a beautiful job of identifying 3 syllable words in a sentence, scooped to break apart the syllables, and rewrote the sentence on the line while proofreading errors. She also read words and identified another word that rhymed, wrote the root word, and divided words by syllables. She was a hard little worker!
Maya and I completed a project from last week as an extension of our study of Mexico. As we continued reading Mexico A to Z, we reviewed the concepts of rural, urban, and suburban, and Maya completed her tri-fold project on that topic. We compared and contrasted life in Mexico and the United States. In her Mexico flip book, Maya continued creating and expanding the following sections: animals, festivals, and history.
Maya learned about many facets of Mexico and its culture and people. We watched the Brain Pop Junior episode on Mexico and took both the easy and hard quizzes. We researched Mexico online through National Geographic Kids and Time for Kids.com. We read part of the book Mexico A to Z. Maya created a flip book on Mexico as we discussed the following concepts: products/production/agriculture/produce, currency, animals that live in the various environments in Mexico (desert, ocean, forest. We also discussed tourism, and reading maps and compasses.
