Lesson Comments
We had a good guided discussion of “Babylon Revisited” and how we both felt about the events and the ending.
This was an enlightening class. We talked about F. Scott and his life and how it reflected in his writing, about Hemingway and Gertrude Stein and their relationships. We both appreciated the writing of F. Scott and how he got it right. Mary has very good insight into literature. She compared the flawless writing of Fitzgerald to a short story by Balzac which lacked a little something.

I read parts of a peer reviewed article on “Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Babylon Revisited” and “ Babylon Revisited Symbolism, Imagery and Allegory.”
I ended by noting once again that it helps to read peer reviewed articles but that the voice of the student’s interpretation and thoughts should always come through in a literature class.
