Brad's verbal participation required much prompting today. He gave 12 verbal responses throughout structured session activities. He showed physical stim behavior 13 times, made eye contact 11 times, and required complete redirection 2 times. He was reluctant to take his turns reading out loud. When he offered a verbal answer, the answer was typically correct. Several times he replied 'I know', but would not offer the answer. We talked about answering questions when someone asks since verbalizing is one of the ways we can show what we know. His reminder for the remainder of the day is to 'Say it out loud'. During an emotion role play activity, Brad asked which picture showed me when I was little. This showed a curiosity about another person that I haven't yet seen in him. Toward the end of the session he apologized. When I asked him what he was sorry for, he said that he didn't do well today. I told him I was very happy with him and that he had done a good job, but reminded him that he needs to answer out loud. He got up and hugged me and reiterated 'You're happy with me?'. I assured him I was happy and that I thought he would have a great day. This was the most connection he has shown outwardly since I began to work with him. He was seeking approval and taking pleasure in receiving it.
