I had Kelly do research for her Civil War Project and Paper. We found facts from two books and from the internet about the tools and methods used during the Civil War on the battlefield. I then asked her to create a quick outline of topics she would discuss in her paper and present on her project board. We discussed primary and secondary sources. We spent some time in the Batt School library and were able to find a few books about science and technology that illuminated what was happening in the field of medicine during the time of the Civil War, as well as before and after. This gave Kelly an even better idea of the tools and medicines that were available in the hospitals on the battlegrounds. We also discussed the differences between the confederate and union armies and how their medical treatment might be unequal.
