Session Date
Lesson Topic
Journal; Impromptu speaking in Spanish; grammar; begin new story
Lesson Outline
30 minutes - Chase and I went outside and I spoke to Chase in Spanish; She answered using about 70% Spanish vocabulary. This is quite an improvement over her ability to speak Spanish when we first met in January. She wrote sentences in her journal using the vocabulary she knew plus some vocab lists she took outside with her. I corrected some grammar and added a few new vocab words.
We returned inside. 20 minutes - review of grammar - 5 tenses - how to form them and when to use them. We watched a you tube of the Spanish grammar as well. This is important as I want Chase to hear Spanish spoken by other people.
5 minute break
65 minutes - we began a new story - La guitarra misteriosa. This story is 40 pages, 14 chapters, with only open ended questions at the end of each chapter. It has 2 simultaneous plots; uses all 5 tenses and incorporates numerous idiomatic phrases throughout the story. Chase did well. She read in Spanish and translated in English. She had no problems answering the questions at the end of chapter 1.
