Dillon did a wonderful job today! He began with an oral reading fluency progress monitoring passage. Dillon scored 87 wcpm which is just 2 words shy of the end of year benchmark for second grade. Next, we talked about text features and their purposes. Today, we focused on headings using an informational text about weird reptiles. Dillon was asked to think about the heading and predict what kind of information he would expect to find in the section based on the heading. Then, he was asked to read the section and write a sentence about the information he found after reading. His assignment for next Monday is to choose 4 more reptiles in the book and use the following process: 1.) read the heading, 2.) predict what information he expects to find in the section based on the heading, 3.) read the section, and 4.)write a sentence with a key piece of information he found in the section.
