Session Date
Lesson Topic
Journal; Grammar - direct and indirect object review; story - la guitarra misteriosa
Lesson Outline
25 minutes - Chase has a lot of thoughts to get down in her journal but her Spanish vocabulary is limited. Many times we use synonyms with words she does know. If I supply her with a vocabulary word, she is very good about writing out a translation for that sentence so that she will be able to learn the word.
25 minutes - today we reviewed which words are direct and indirect objects and the rules for their use. Using the story “La Guitarra Misteriosa”, we identified the direct and indirect objects and how to translate them.

65 minutes - Chase is enjoying the reading of this story: La Guitarra Misteriosa. Today she read in Spanish - Chapters 5 & 6; translated them and answered the open-ended questions. Her readings and translations were done after each set of 3 or 4 paragraphs. Chase translates very well. Many times, if there is a word or phrase she is unfamiliar with, she will look ahead to the rest of the sentence or next sentence and figure out what is being said. Most of the time, she is absolutely correct. I then go back to the “missing” word or phrase and give her the meaning. She is very good about writing it down so that she has it for the next time she encounters it. I feel that Chase has responded very positively to learning Spanish by reading stories.
