Journal; Grammar - review vocab of story; Story - La Guitarra Misteriosa
Lesson Outline
15 minutes EXTRA - Chase arrived early today and Alexa Ketchum was absent, so I was able to give her extra time. Chase looked over the vocabulary from the story and I quizzed her on some of the words.
30 minutes - Journal - Chase and I went outside and we made entries into her journal. Her entries are automatic - the date; weather conditions; description of the people outside with us and their activities; then an event in her personal life.
5 minute break
15 minutes - the Spanish story she is reading has a complicated plot and characters that frequently change with each chapter. Because of this, we spent time going over the plot and identifying the characters prior to reading.
70 minutes - Chapters 11 & 12 of La Guitarra Misteriosa - Chase read one page at a time in Spanish. She then translated the page, identified grammar points and new vocabulary. Chase is keeping a list of new vocabulary and she write out translations of entire sentences when she feels she needs it. At the end of each chapter there are 5 open-ended questions. She answers each on her own then reads it to me in Spanish. I make corrections as needed. Her content is normally 100% correct and she usually needs only minor grammar or vocabulary corrections.
