Lesson Comments
Steve, the language arts teacher was absent. I substituted from 12:30 to 1:00. I followed lesson plan left by teacher which was to have Charlie answer questions on the story of Keesch. I offered to read through the questions and assist him with comprehension. However, Charlie would not allow me to assist so he did this alone. Charlie repeatedly stated: “how do I know if this is really what my teacher left me. I have no proof.” I answered that I was given the paper and that he recently read the story of Keesch and that he must now answer these questions. I told him I would not entertain any further conversation on the matter. He then did the work. The second portion of the assignment was for Charlie to begin a “letter of caring”. Once again he refused and then took out a “sword” - which was actually a long stick. I told him it looked like the sword in “Man from La Mancha” and asked him if he knew of Don Quiote. He took out his laptop to look it up and at that point, his math teacher entered the room.
