Charlie and I discussed the summertime. We took time to revisit some of the things that we did throughout the time we spent together since Charlie came to the Batt School.
Charlie will create a new comic strip for his student web page, add all images, add content, post it to the web page, and create a new link on the comic strip page.

I introduced the lesson by showing Charlie some examples of fractals used by various artists, including Escher and Cyriak. We then watched a video explanation of what fractals are and how to create them. I showed him how the nature of fractals leads to the property of infinite zoom. We then explored the nature of mobius strips. There was no assignment.

Charlie was not well focused today since it was the last day of school.
Charlie watched a Shape of Life invertebrate video today which was an overview of invertebrates and explained how invertebrates make up 97% of all animals. The video began with the simplest invertebrate, sponges, and moved to each evolving species including cnidarians, mollusks, annelids, arthropods, and echinoderms. it explained how each new species was different from the former and the adaptations it made.
Charlie's decides to manufacture a prototype bow and arrow using balsa wood, two wooden pegs, and a dowel rod. We cut the bow to the proper width and length. Charlie carefully sands the parts with 220 grit sandpaper. Next he drill holes for the pegs and I super glue them in place. Lastly, Charlie ties the string to the pegs and testing takes place. Pretty good results for his first try. Great session.
In addition to his work on multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction, I introduced Charlie to 3 dimensional art projected on a 2-dimensional surface. I showed him examples of 3-D street art where this is available for public viewing. There were other examples from this topic, including the T-Rex with eyes that seem to follow a moving viewer. There was no assignment.

Charlie was very interested in the different presentations. He enjoyed himself as he learned about the topic of dimensions.
Charlie spent time in the morning copying his vocabulary words and definitions on to flash cards. By doing this, he created a matching game which he then did perfectly. After lunch, Charlie picked five of his vocabulary words and wrote a 3 paragraph story using them in context.
Hour 1.
Charlie and I will complete a set of origami monkeys using the following tutorial:
