Reading Assessment
Lesson Outline
It was a pleasure meeting Micaiah and her family. Micaiah is a delightful child and was very open and engaged during our testing session. I administered a variety of informal reading assessments to determine her current reading level. On the San Diego Quick Assessment, she scored at the independent level for pre-K and K word lists and the frustrational level on the first grade list. On the High Frequency Words list she readily passed the first grade benchmark. I also gave her the Qualitative Reading Inventory, which yielded conflicting results due to the number of miscues of words. Her word miscues caused her to lose comprehension resulting in lowered scores. Word errors are graphically similar and Micaiah reported that words are blurry. I recommend she have a thorough eye exam to ensure that there is not a vision issue. If she is found not to have a vision issue, there are several ways to address her weaknesses including rapid naming protocols, sight word work, decoding work, and metacogniton training. Micaiah was focused and attentive during our session, and I am sure that she can readily improve her reading.

Lesson Comments
This session was scheduled for 4:30 and she did not arrive until 5:30. Judy - you should know that Mom did not pick her up early from camp as she agreed. When we were talking, Micaiah volunteered that her camp went bowling. I asked her if she missed some bowing when her mom picked her up early and she said no- her mom picked her up when camp was over.
