We discussed figurative language and took turns drawing different idioms and guessing what the picture represented and its meaning. Jason found "it's raining cat and dogs" to be the funniest. It was a fun exercise to introduce him to a type of literary devices.
Jason learned about voting. We created a ballot box and walked around polling the students and teachers. They cast their vote for either pizza or spaghetti as their favorite Italian food. We tallied up the votes at the end, and pizza won the vote.
Jason completed Inquiry Journal pages 28-29. He drew a picture of how people help others and show respect. He labeled the picture. He listed three things he can do to be a good citizen in the community. We discussed what it means to vote. He looked at a picture of a boy casting his vote in a ballot box. I listed and read, and he repeated the words choose, choice and chance. We discussed the definitions of the words and used them in a sentence.
