Jason and I learned about the difference between rules and laws. We talked about examples of rules and laws on our poster. He completed a rules and laws cut and sort activity.
Jason completed today's daily review questions on skip counting by 5s, 2-digit addition, a subtraction word problem, telling time to the half-hour, and shape names. Our lesson used connecting cubes and a number bonds recording sheet to help understand the relationship between addition and subtraction. Jason chose the total amount of cubes to use for each problem and the 2 parts each whole was broken into. These amounts were written into a part-part whole model along with its correlating 2 addition and 2 subtraction equations. Then, Jason determined the unknown number or missing part of shown part-part whole problems. Finally, this strategy was used to help answer subtraction within 20 fact fluency questions.
Jason and I changed the date on the calendar. We read the texts "Our Country's Laws" and "Following Rules and Laws" on pages 13-14 in the textbook. We looked at an image of The United States Constitution. I asked him the following questions: What is a community? Name a law in your community. Where do the laws come from? We looked at a picture of a girl putting a can in the recycling bin. We talked about how she is following the rules.
