Spelling Grammar Reading Comprehension Story Map R-controlled Vowels
Lesson Outline
Remi took his Spelling and Grammar tests. He read, discussed, and made a story map for today's story, "Dear Primo." He completed several other stories identifying and using words with r-controlled vowels in context.
Using the engineering design process: 1) ask, 2) imagine, 3) plan, 4) create, and 5) test, Remington created his roller coaster track. After several test runs, he redesigned his track and got his marble named Lightening to travel over 34 feet.

Today's multiplication activity involving various real world word problems was a very positive and productive experience for Remington today. He was on-task and generated accurate answers for almost all of the multiplication problems presented.
Remi worked on a calendar for the month of April. He practiced spelling his spelling words. He completed several reading comprehension activities using r-controlled words. He learned that some irregular words change forms to become past tense. (go-went, do-did, see-saw, say-said, tell-told) He used his spelling words to write sentences correctly.

It was a very active double class today! We went outside and started by launching Eggbert the egg in his parachute in six feet, eight feet, and 10 feet drops. He survived the flights. Then we played badminton and moved to a few Danny Go! videos. Then we dropped Remington's egg Tim in his crate outside from several heights. Tim survived six feet, eight feet and 10 feet drops. He also survived 20 feet and 29 feet throws by Remington. We had the measuring tape and measured the distances. Remington's design was successful and protected Tim the egg.

Remi practiced spelling his spelling words. He reviewed the r-controlled vowel sounds for this week. He wrote his spelling words in ABC order and used them to write completed sentences. He completed a reading comprehension activity using his new vocabulary words. He used his glossary skills to look up the definitions for his new vocabulary words and then wrote these definitions in his notebook. He read and discussed today's story, "Happy New Year."
