Jackson completed his interactive calendar. He read and discussed all his spelling words, sight words, and vocabulary words. He wrote his spelling words 3 times each and completed an activity using his new vocabulary words in context. He learned what a suffix is and how to use them in sentences. He wrote the definition of a suffix into his rule book. He worked on identifying helping verbs.

Jackson completed his interactive calendar. He took his spelling test. He read and discussed his sight words and vocabulary words. He needs to pay closer attention to his handwriting. His work could and should be much neater. He wrote sentences making two sentences into one and corrected sentences using the proper capitalization and punctuation. Jackson has been difficult at times this week. He has been acting out in class and being very rude.
Jackson finished his Judith Scott inspired bundle (small sculpture). Jackson helped me photograph his sculpture, so it could look its best. We talked about why it is important to document our artwork. Then Jackson started his next project: Houses in Our Community.
8.7 Estimate Lengths in Feet – We learned to identify objects that have a greater length than a ruler. We used our knowledge of a ruler equaling 1 foot to measure larger objects in feet. Then we solved word problems requiring measurements.
We learned about what people can do to slow the changes to Earth’s landscape. We discovered how water erosion affects a hill. Then we explored the use of straw waddles to slow water erosion. We created an experiment to simulate the effect of straw waddles to slow the water erosion. We created a hill out of clay and straw waddles out of paper towels. We held the straw waddles down in the clay with toothpicks and used a paper cup with holes to simulate rain.
The teacher presented a reading game in which the student progressed from Level 1 to Level 4. The student read 20 words at each level. Whenever the student made a mistake, the teacher paused and helped by separating the word into syllables to support decoding. After completing each level, the student also completed a short dictation activity to practice spelling and reinforce the words read.
