Ben and I read about HIV/AIDS. We read about the following topics: What is HIV/AIDS, Understanding HIV/AIDS, safety of giving and receiving blood in the USA, and how HIV affects the immune system.
Ben and I read and discussed Lesson 1 Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Lesson 2 Preventing and Treating STDs. We discussed the following terms: asymptomatic and antibiotics. We discussed the following STDs: HPV, Chlamydia, Herpes, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis and Syphilis. We discussed prevention and treatment. He answered the lesson questions.
Ben and I went over Lesson 4 Emerging Diseases and Pandemics. We discussed emerging infections, pandemics, E. coli and giardia and epidemics. He completed the Lesson 4 Review questions.
Ben read about fighting communicable diseases: immune system, inflammatory response, phagocytes, antigens, lymphocytes and immunity. We discussed the immune system memory response. He answered the Lesson 3 review questions.
Ben and I discussed common communicable diseases. We discussed the following key terms: respiratory tract, mucous membranes, pneumonia, jaundice, cirrhosis and the diseases common cold, influenza, strep throat, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. He answered the Lesson 2 Review questions and we discussed.
Cam completed a reading comprehension article about what to do in case of and emergency and when to call 911. He answered comprehension questions pertaining to the article.
Ben and I watched a video and read about how to perform CPR. We practiced the four steps: look for safety, check for breathing, call 911, and compressions.
