SAT / ACT Prep
Session Date
Lesson Topic
Reading Comprehension and English
Lesson Outline
Haley and I completed three reading comprehension passages with discussion of incorrect answers and concepts. Haley does better on the nonfiction (science and history) passages than the narrative ones. The questions that require implications about characterization and character or author purpose tend to stump her. We were also able to complete some English grammar exercises. Haley is very strong in this area.

ACT Tutoring
Lesson Outline
Ryan, Jeff and I went through reading comprehension passages ad English grammar sections from our SAT books. We discussed last minute strategies for the ACT before their test. I believe they will both do well, most likely better than the last test. They seem to like the SAT better, so after this, we give the next SAT another go. :)

graph analysis, algebraic manipulation, linear systems
Lesson Outline
I worked with Julia on several problems including some problems dealing with analysis of graphs, solutions of linear systems in two equations, and algebraic manipulation. We also worked on strategies for certain types of problems which are found on all SAT tests. Finally, I explained where certain problems were not worth the extensive time required to complete them and should be skipped. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
This was my last session with Julia. I hope that she is able to work through some of the remaining problems in the book without my help. I feel that she is well prepared to take the exam at this time, even though we have used the SAT book to study for the ACT.
Session Date
Lesson Topic
Graph interpretation, algebraic methods, and extrapolation
Lesson Outline
Julia and I went through some problems in the practice text for SAT questions. Although she intends to take the ACT exam in July, we are using the SAT book she brought, which should still provide good preparation. Most of the problems were easily understood by Julia but one or two problems had difficult explanations and so I advised her to skip them on her test. There was no assignment.

Sat practice exam
Lesson Outline
We completed 90 percent of a 2018 SAT practice exam. We talked a lot about test strategies and what are the most tested concepts on the exam. They did not have a lot of time to prepare for the exam but in the two sessions I felt they showed definite improvement.
