Using chalk markers on a chalkboard, Addison practiced words with two vowels together and a long vowel sound. We finished reading the book about Disney and chose the Princess Diana book for the next time.
Today I gave Aiden a Quiz on 8.1-8.5. He didn't know it was a quiz. I wanted to see how he would do on it without the pressure of needing to get a good grade. We pulled a Mid-Topic Review from the textbook. It was 6 problems with a mixed variety from each section. Aiden got practice with recalling the definitions of vertical and adjacent angles, using scale factors to predict related values, finding and comparing circumference lengths, and properties of unique triangles. Aiden got a 95% on it. The only parts where I helped him were on clarifying how to round (he was to round to the nearest hundredths place, the value was 37.699 and he had trouble recalling that it would be 37.7, once explained he remembered), and on one answer he said, "We would need to be given the third side as 7cm". When a better and more accurate answer was, "We would need to be given the measure of the third side." (we don't know if it would be 7cm, but it could be any measure that fits -so his answer wasn't wrong it just wasn't thorough). I told him it was a Quiz and he was disappointed he didn't get a 100%. I told him if he goes through life getting 95%s on everything he does, he's going places!! He did an excellent job!
Today Ben was quite tardy for class, so we didn't have enough time to dive into a formal lesson. Instead we talked informally about computer storage and how the prefixes (mega, tera, giga) are related. We looked up what they mean and saw that megabits are tiny and megabytes are large. We learned that there are 1 million megabytes in 1 terabyte. We compared that to the storage of a photo in a cellphone. I looked up a photo to see it was the size of 1.6 megabytes. We learned there are 1,000 megabytes in a gigabyte and 1,000 gigabytes in a terabyte.
Today Matthew and I started to review for his test. We started with the concept we've most recently discussed: finding trig values for degrees and radians of the unit circle. Matthew did a great job recalling the coordinates at this location. He needed some reminders about how to work with negative angles. He's got a good understanding of the 3 trig ratios and how they relate to their reciprocal functions. Tomorrow we will continue to review.
Richard was seen in his room for a 45-minute treatment session. His session focuses on improving his postural control, integration of retained reflexes, visual motor skills and integration, fine motor skills, dexterity, manipulation, ocular motor development and graphomotor development/keyboarding as an alternative means to written communication. Began session with cursive writing instruction. Continued learning and was instructed on the lower case letter "z". When he was provided with a visual example he began writing words with like "zebra". Richard is very slow when writing in cursive at this time but with practice this skill can become faster and more efficient. We continued to review each letter for quicker recall. Good session.
