We went through Reid's school folder to assess his classwork. Reid made flashcards of his spelling words and syllabicated the words to facilitate memorization. Reid read a passage from his school's program "Daily Reading Ready" entitled "Bill's Big Changes." Reid read with reasonable fluency and comprehension. He read and answered the ten multiple choice comprehension questions as we reviewed vocabulary such as "conclude" and "summary." To conclude, we went outside to practice his spelling words while playing basketball.
PJ had a great class today. I was super proud of how worked when the problems got difficult. We created a random number generator on the floor with tape and markers. Then we used it to come up with a number. The first number we got was 5. Then we worked backwards to create an equation. I asked PJ to give me an operation: he said addition. Then I asked him to give me a number between 1 and 10. He said one. So we created an equation: x+5=1. Then I had PJ solve it. He is getting better at showing his work properly.
Today we focused on an ACT Practice Test. We covered topics such as solving multi-step equations, exponent properties, and word problems. Next we reviewed the PreCalc content we've been working on: degrees and radians. We coverted degrees to radians and radians to degrees.
Today Joshua and I began by checking his homework from last night. He got a 100% with no questions, so we moved on to today's very important lesson. Today Joshua and I discussed the Unit Circle. I used the white board and expo markers to draw a circle. We counted around the circle in radians and degrees. Then we determined the coordinates of each point along the unit circle. I showed Joshua the relationship between the angle measures and their sides. Next, we related the unit circle to the three main trig functions. Then we practiced evaluating things like sin(2pi/3). We will build on this tomorrow.
