Today Carson and I learned the Pythagorean Theorem. I showed him on the white board how we typically find the distance between two points is by counting the units between them. However if the points are at a diagonal, then our counting may not be accurate. I had Carson draw a right triangle. We identified the legs and the hypotenuse. Then I showed Carson how to find the hypotenuse of a triangle with legs 3 units and 4 units. We applied the pythagorean Theorem a^2+b^2=c^2 to find the missing side was 5 units. Carson did a great job with this lesson.
Today JPaul and I worked on a review of the previous 3 sections to prepare for a Quiz tomorrow. I wrote problems on the board and JPaul worked them out on his desk. He worked on changing from exponential to logarithmic form and vice versa. He worked on evaluating logarithms with and without a calculator. He worked on condensing and expanding logarithms using their properties. I think he is well prepared for the quiz tomorrow.
Today Matthew and I worked on a review of the previous 3 sections to prepare for a Quiz tomorrow. I wrote problems on the board and Matthew worked them out on his desk. He worked on changing from exponential to logarithmic form and vice versa. He worked on evaluating logarithms with and without a calculator. He worked on condensing and expanding logarithms using their properties. I think he is well prepared for the quiz tomorrow.
Christopher wrote his spelling words in his journal and highlighted letters to remember. We read The Watsons Go to Birmingham. He typed some of his new script.
I was out on Friday and gave Ben an exponent review to work on. He said he didn’t know how to do any of it and couldn’t read the font. I think he could have put in more of an effort.
So we did the review together. We reviewed the vocabulary: base, power, exponent. We reviewed properties such as multiplying, dividing, and power rule. We discusssed negative exponents and zero exponents.
