Today JPaul and I worked on solving literal equations. We were given equations that may or may not have any applicable meaning, but practiced algebraic skills to solve for a given variable. We practiced different problem types with the variable in the denominator, squared, etc. JPaul was a little rusty at first, but then he got into the swing of things. He started to pick up on the problems so quickly, I had to remind him to slow down and not do "too many" steps in his head. His brain works faster than his hands and when he does this, he is bound to make mistakes. He accepted the feedback.
Christopher practiced three spelling words from before Christmas. Then he took a test on those words. He read about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and we discussed the historical context. He wrote in his journal about how we should behave like Dr. Martin Luther King today.
In her journal, Kaitlin wrote her spelling words in sentences. She wrote a paragraph about her prediction of the climax of the story. We read The Witch of Blackbird Pond.
Using paint markers and cardstock, Richard practiced his spelling words and words with ew. We reviewed words with oo. He read books with words he can read.
Andrew and I discussed his responsibilities as a citizen in voting in 2024. Andrew and I discussed the federal, state and local elections and he is tasked with finding out what elections he’s voting in, in his first election later this year. The goal is to make him fully understand what his vote means and entails.
