Today we spent Reviewing the concepts from this quarter. We pulled problems from a practice test that required the calculator and reviewed concepts that we haven't seen in a while.
Today PJ and I created a poster with the rules for the order of operations. He used markers to write out PEMDAS "please excuse my dear aunt sally" and "Parentheses Exponents Multiplication Division Addition Subtraction". We talked as we colored it together.
We had two sessions today.
The first sesssion we spent in his room reviewing PEMDAS. We both made up problems and then worked through them together. We discussed ways students could potentially make mistakes.
The second session we went to the science lab and worked on the smart board. We played a PEMDAS game. PJ is doing great on these problems now!
Today we reviewed the various topics we've discussed this quarter. We tried a word problem where Ben had to set up the equation himself to solve it. We need to work more on these after break. Then we solved a system- Ben chose to do so by graphing. He got stuck because one of the intercepts was a fraction. So I showed him how to complete it. Then showed him how substitution could have been an easier method.
