I read to Chris about the author of The Automation Paradox. We read the story, discussed it, and answered questions at the end of the story. Chris wrote his spelling words in his journal and marked syllables.
Libby practiced tracing letters in a tray of rice. She wrote "basement" letters (g, j, p) on lines with a house. We played Bingo looking for upper case letters. I read the Lorax while Libby held the stuffed Lorax. We watched the movie of the story.
New Country assignment. Ben was tasked with addressing the basic questions and philosophies about starting a new country. How would he lead and for who? When would he want to start a country and how would he protect his people?
Chris wrote his spelling words in his dictionary. I read Elizabeth Browning's Sonnet 43 to him. Chris looked up answers to questions about the background of the sonnet. We discussed sonnet format. Then he read Interflora.
Libby used rubber stamps and magic change color markers to practice letters of the alphabet. She used the paper with a house symbol to write attic letters (b, d, f, h, k, l, t). We used lively letter cards to start practicing the sound the letters make. I read Grouchy Ladybug while Libby played with the puppet.
Libby was seen in her room for a 45-minute treatment session with the focus of therapy on fine motor skills specially grasp patterns, ocular motor skills (saccades), self care skills, and handwriting. Began today session reestablishing rapport which Libby which was easy to do. Libby was excited to share what she wore over the summer and was interested in putting back up her reward chart for her hair and clothes. She further reported that she only put on her braids when she was in camp otherwise she wore it down. Continued treatment with ocular motor activity that worked on convergence. Libby was asked to draw a small nose on ladybug faces hung on vertical plane. She continued to work on depth perception with straw and small stick activity. She did well with both tasks. Lastly, we went over alphabet to determine which uppercase letter she was able to identify from recall. She was able to recall 17/26 letters correctly. She was unable to identify the following letters: F, E, H, J, M, O, S, U, and V". Great first session.
