We discussed the apocalypse story line formula employed in Rot and Ruin. Bobby recorded the elements of this type of story in his notebook, and we discussed how those elements also applied to the movie Wonder Woman. As Bobby wanted to read some of the book in class , we spent some class time to allow Bobby to read.
We then read and discussed Edgar Allan Poe's poem "El Dorado" and the concept of an elusive paradise. Bobby enjoyed the poem and the poem's rhythms . We read the poem aloud so he could hear the poem's rhythms copying the sound of the trotting horse the knight is riding .

In preparation for writing paragraphs with topic sentences, today Bobby recorded in his notebook a list of conjunctions to use in joining simple sentences and a list of transition words to use at the beginning of a new sentence . We will refer to this list when we prepare initial drafts.
Bobby also completed an exercise from a grammar book wherein he combined simple sentences by using adjectives. He did very well with this exercise.

This afternoon Bobby worked on his homework from page 231 which featured key Hebrew figures in history. This assignment was assigned over the weekend. We are moving forward into the next section which outlines some of their contributions to the Jewish religion. Homework is to read pages 232-237 #'s 1-4.

I gave Bobby a notebook today to keep notes of our classwork and of our class discussions. I will instruct him what to write in the notebook until he gets the grasp of note taking.
We compared the first person narrative voice in Poe with the all knowing narrative voice in Rot and Ruin.
We then took turns reading "Annabel Lee" and discussed its meaning and the poet's use of language. Bobby indicated that he enjoyed the Poe poem and wanted to read another . I told him I would bring in another.

We reviewed Bobby's homework wherein he created compound sentences with conjunctions ,and we also worked with connecting words used when composing two sentences.I continued reviewing Bobby's prior essay on the "Tell Tale Heart" with him. We discussed alternative wordings to replace colloquial language and the importance of editing and rewriting.

This afternoon Bobby and I worked on his public service announcement featuring the virus. His goal is to prepare an iMovie warning the public about the virus (influenza). Homework is to work on gathering images and data for the presentation.

This afternoon Bobby and I delved into the magical world of proportions as outlined on page 268. We discussed the relationship between numbers used to represent groups of objects or individuals and whether or not these groupings are proportional to each other. Homework is to complete #'s 9-20 on page 288. This is pretty straightforward and Bobby should have little difficulty in completing this initial assignment.

After warming up, Bobby did bench presses, TRX inverted rows, DB chest flies, lawn mowers, landmine chest presses, face pulls (rope), cross crunches, and planks.

This morning we began our work on Bobby's public service announcement using the virus as a central theme. He will be using iMovie on his laptop to further broaden his digital video/imaging skills. This topic will reinforce the material in the textbook covering the bacteria and the virus.

This afternoon Bobby and I continued our work on his expository essay on the Dark Web. Bobby has taken a particular interest in this topic and we opted to work on this project while ending the class with a quick review of our last section in the social studies text book.
