This afternoon Bobby and I used this period to work on his iMovie presentation featuring the virus. Bobby is reluctant to use this learning tool and is questioning the relevance of doing so. I am encouraging Bobby to become more technologically proficient and this exercise is the first of many.
Bobby had earlier written a character analysis of one the main characters in Rot and Ruin. I don't believe he understood the focus of the assignment. We discussed the difference between physical attributes and moral character and devised a list of the main character's moral or personal traits. For example, we discussed how someone could be physically strong and yet be of either good or bad character. We used this analysis in the writing exercise. We further discussed the chapter Bobby read for homework. Homework-read chapter 22.
Bobby and I reviewed more transition words that can connect separate sentences and then did a guided paragraph writing exercise. I prepared a prompt or statement about the Rot and Ruin reading that required that Bobby respond in an organized paragraph. I showed Bobby how to devise a topic sentence from the prompt, and then we prepared an outline for the responsive paragraph. Next, we together drafted sentences based on the outline to form a unified responsive paragraph. Last, we edited the writing. At this point in the guided exercise, I supplied a lot of the structure and diction. But my plan is to practice this exercise almost daily to enable Bobby to contribute more each day. The writing exercise will tie into the literature we are reading. Bobby is up to page 167 in the book and for homework I assigned reading Ch 21.
Bobby did bicep curls with shoulder press, dips (bench), reverse crunches, lateral flys, conentration hammer curls, diagonal cable tricep extensions, inch works, should taps, DB bicep curls to flip reverse curls, behind the head tricep extensions, mountain climbers, and DB scissor kicks.
This morning we began the section on basic geometry. Bobby and I reviewed a few simple geometric symbols such as a line segment, points, planes and rays. Homework is to read pages 297-298 and complete #'s 1-10.
This morning Bobby and I finished the installation of the control module on the robot as well as the installation of the wiring looms. We ran a systems check which was successful. Bobby began a tutorial on how to use iMovie in order to prepare for his public service presentation on Ebola. The iMovie presentation is due on Monday.
This afternoon Bobby and I moved forward in our comparison of religions. We learned about four particular individuals that played a key role in the emergence of Judaism and their belief in a single God despite the prevailing practice of polytheism. Homework is to read pages 240-245 and complete #'s 1-4.
This afternoon Bobby and I visited the praying mantis nursery and made observations before returning to class. The mantis have grown considerably in size and the population appears to have stabilized. There were a number of fruit flies still present within the cage whereby our job was made a little easier as a result. We returned to the classroom in order for Bobby to continue working on his public service announcement on iMovie.
This morning Bobby and I continued our study of ratios and proportions. Although Bobby admitted that he found this particular topic to be less challenging than others, he was still having problems following the two basic steps in determining equivalent proportions. We practiced the problems on page 288 and finished the problems successfully. Homework: None.
Bobby warmed up, then did Sumo squats (platforms), glute kickbacks, single leg curls, leg extensions, fire hydrants, squat jumps, barbell calf raises, and ankle leg lifts.
