Website Project - Batt School Website Center and The Profit

Hour 1:
Bobby and I will discuss the new website project that he and other students will be working on. Bobby's roll in the project will be creating the home page for the website, adding all verbal content and visual content. Bobby will be given 30 minutes to type the welcome paragraph for the website. The goal is for Bobby to type freely and learn how and what the purpose of a first draft is.
Hour 2:
Bobby and I have been discussing his passion to become an entrepreneur and what it takes to maintain success and growth. Today we will dive into the world of Marcus Lemonis and The Profit. I will have Bobby watch a video about a tiny house ceo, that created a great product but ended up needing Marcus Lemonis to step in and save his business. We will watch the first half and Bobby will give me a review of some of the successes and opportunities that he has seen.

Edgar Allan Poe
Lesson Outline
Bobby had completed an essay /critique of "The Tell Tale Heart". We discussed the difference between the fictional narrator of the story and the actual author . As Poe appeals to Bobby, I brought in a Poe poem"Annabel Lee" which we began to read. The role of auditory imagery is common to both .Bobby was very astute in recognizing the poem's repeating rhythms reflected the sound of the sea which is continually referred to in the poem.
Assignment
Bobby has been reading the novel Rot and Ruin. He was assigned an additional 10 pages to read for Monday.

Compound sentences/ diction
Lesson Outline
Bobby and I had our initial session this morning. We reviewed and edited a portion of his essay on "The Telltale Heart". We discussed the difference between written English and conversational English and focused on appropriate writing diction, for example substituting the word "therefore" for the word "so". Additionally, we studied how to form compound sentences with conjunctions.
Assignment
Write 3 compound sentences . Use "or " in one sentence, "but" in the second and the connector"and" in the third.Then write two sentences with second sentence beginning with " However, or nevertheless"

This morning Bobby took the chapter five assessment. There was a lot of pushback and distractions but he scored a respectable 70% on the quiz. We used the study skills class to go over the assessment.

This afternoon Bobby and I made the wiring looms for our robot using the materials provided in our kit. All of the basic components including the control module have been installed and now it is time to wire them together and perform a system check.

This morning Bobby was given an assessment on chapter five which highlights many of the key concepts that we have been covering over the course of the three to four weeks. Many of the problems were taken directly from the homework.

Incorporation
Lesson Outline
This afternoon Bobby and I took our study of how to start a business one step further by discussing how to incorporate a business entity and what are the choices for a new business owner. We discussed some of the advantages offered by incorporating as a subchapter S versus an LLC and how incorporation can protect the business owner from some forms of liability etc.

This afternoon Bobby and I reviewed the nature of the virus and the manner in which it reproduces as compared to the bacteria. We also discussed how bacteria reproduce through fission or conjugation and how genetic variation is not possible through conjugation. We reviewed the homework on chapter 7.

Bobby edited sentences. He added quotation marks, commas, capital letters, question marks, and exclamation points. He completed a spelling assessment. He read two nonfiction articles on readtheory.org and completed the comprehension questions. We read and discussed "Rot and Ruin."

Bobby achieved 7th grade reading level for the first time today on readtheory.org. He is quite proud of his achievement. He was stuck on sixth grade reading level for several months.

Standardised test review
Lesson Outline
This morning Bobby and I reviewed the problems in the standardized test at the end of the chapter. Bobby was less than enthusiastic and struggled with the first 8 problems. Bobby admitted to being "confused" by math in general and did not see the point in learning it. This has been a familiar topic for debate in the past. We will be having a chapter quiz on Friday which hopefully will reveal better results.
