This morning we began our review of chapter five and many of the concepts we covered involving fractions over the last three weeks. We will be having a quiz next week. It is important that Bobby keeps up with his homework and applies himself accordingly in order to develop confidence. I have been emphasizing to Bobby that it is the process that is important and not necessarily the final answer. Homework is to complete page 268 problems.
This afternoon Bobby and I began our study of the virus and bacteria. We will be comparing the two organisms in particular how they reproduce and how their cellular structure differs. We will focus on this chapter while working on the robot in the upcoming week(s). Homework is to read pages 239-244 and complete #'s 1-7.
Bobby and I took the opportunity during social studies to catch up on his math homework. Bobby did not complete his work from the previous night and was facing a larger workload than normal. We felt as though it would be to his advantage to use this period as a way to begin his homework and ask questions when they arise. We will resume our study of ancient China on Friday.
Bobby adds symbols on his floor plan for a circular staircase having 16 steps. He then views a video on how a carpenter would construct the same staircase. Great session.
Bobby is writing an analysis of the character "Tom" in "Rot and Ruin." He is supporting his ideas with evidence from the story. He edited for run-on sentences.
Bobby combined sentences to make complex sentences with conjunctions and commas in the grammar textbook. He edited his summary of the "Tell Tale Heart." He added commas and fixed run-on sentences. Bobby read two chapters in "Rot and Ruin." He highlighted unfamiliar vocabulary and evidence of Tom being brave and strong. He will use this evidence in a character analysis. Bobby completed a spelling test. For homework, he will read two chapters in "Rot and Ruin."
This afternoon Bobby and I focused our attention on the Han Dynasty. We discussed the contributions to a centralized government, art and engineering during this particular period. Homework is read pages 206-211 and complete #'s 1-3, & 5. We will review the homework from the previous night at our next class since we ran out of time today.
This afternoon Bobby and I killed two birds with one stone by discussing arguments for his next expository writing assignment focusing on social media, and taking a quick trip to the new school to feed the mantids. We noticed that although we lost a number of the mantids during the first two weeks since their emergence, several have gotten noticeably larger.
This afternoon Bobby and I continued our work on the chassis of our robot tank. We discussed some of the features of the robot that highlighted science concepts as they relate to force, performing work and utilizing force more efficiently. We are enjoying our new project and so far everything is going together well.
