This morning Bobby and I focused on converting percentages to fractions. We practiced this technique on a number of questions that coincidently dealt with tennis. Bobby did a good job converting fractions to percentages but stumbled just a bit converting back again. Homework will be to continue with the problems on 347 and 348. Lots of reinforcement needed.

This afternoon Bobby and I were able to pick up where we had left off with an introduction into some of the famous Greek philosophers such as Socrates, Aristotle, and Archimedes. We reviewed his homework on pages 303-308 before moving forward. Homework tonight is to prepare the questions 1-9 on page 311.

This morning Bobby and I learned how to convert percentages into fractions, decimals and back again. We worked on page 347 in the text and then practiced problem solving on the section review. Homework is to prepare the questions on page 347 #'s 7-23. Bobby seemed to readily grasp the mechanics on how to convert the percentage into a fraction which is encouraging.

Lesson Outline
Bobby and the instructor worked on writing about the sport of tennis. First, Bobby did some brainstorming on the topic and the instructor was the scribe. After discussing three main ideas on tennis, Bobby did some research on types of sneakers, tennis rackets, and tennis courts. The information gathered will be used to help him plan and write an essay. Bobby worked on a 3-D puzzle during the final minutes of the session.

Lesson Outline
This afternoon Bobby and I watched the first part of the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" which provides a startling look at the causes behind global climate change. Bobby did not bring in his textbook nor his homework which prompted me to change the lesson plan for this period. He is going to have a quiz later in the week on the material that we have covered in the last section. We will develop a word bank and index cards during our next class.

The session began with the use of a graphic organizer. Bobby selected two sports topics to compare. He used the organizer to list similarities and differences. The final part of the session was spent on vocabulary.

Vocabulary Quiz and Short Story Reading
Lesson Outline
We reviewed Bobby's vocabulary list and he took his quiz, scoring 100%. We then read parts 1-3 of Roald Dahl's short story, "Royal Jelly," and discussed the characters, setting, and devices contributing to its eerie or suspenseful tone: images/similes, scientific facts and data, and quotations from texts within the text of the story.

This afternoon Bobby and I fed the tarantula spiderlings and documented our husbandry efforts thus far. I am trying to impress upon Bobby that our acquisition of the spiders is for research purposes as well as a unique creature to enjoy and study. Taking observations and accumulating data is part of the process. We will work on his keynote presentation during this period as well.
